Pile Foundations

Foundation

Firstly we precision cut and assemble substantial beams using traditional carpentry without nails to form a full frame which is the sole plate of your new timber building.

The frame is now laid in your desired location and any grass and weeds are removed and the ground you hopefully won't see for many years is cleaned and levelled.

If necessary a weed control barrier is next laid to stop future weeds coming through.

Next a damp proof course is laid over the mounting blocks or pads to avoid future dampness affecting the structure in any way.

A check is made that the base is truly level, and packing is used to make minor adjustments. It is essential to make these checks so that the considerable weight of the garden building will not cause future problems.

This is the base structure for the Garden Room shown here >>.

Notes:

Larger structures may require more substantial concrete foundations and all the necessary groundworks can all be arranged and supervised by us.

Timber is one of the most ecologically friendly building materials available. When wood is growing, huge amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere are absorbed by day, and clean oxygen released overnight. The carbon dioxide remains 'locked up' in the timber until it is burnt or returns to the natural cycle. Our timber is locally grown in Scotland reducing our carbon footprint. The use of timber stimulates the forestry trade which responds by planting more trees.
